Final plans for the Psi Chapter Mansion

Apr 26, 2007 @ 09:58 pm by joel

These are the plans that we will be submitting to the City of New Orleans so that we can obtain a building permit. I expect that we will have this permit in just a few days. Also, on Wednesday we will have the bids from two contractors. So, we may be engaging a contractor to begin construction within the week.

John J. Hainkel Jr. Brick Campaign Kick-Off Party

Apr 24, 2007 @ 10:47 pm by joel.roberts

On behalf of NOKAA (New Orleans Kappa Alpha Alumni Inc), I would like to offer you the opportunity to participate in the Campaign to Rebuild the Psi Chapter KA House. because of a fire that ravaged the KA House on January 1, 2007, there is a real urgency to our need for funds. NOKAA was incorporated on October 21, 1938 to manage the property, 1036 Audubon Street, which was then occupied by the Psi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order. Psi Chapter has occupied this property (the Psi Chapter KA House) since 1923.

The Campaign to Rebuild the Psi Chapter KA House officially began on Thursday, February 1, 2007. To date, we have received $158,800 of pledges. While we are continuing to contact prospective major donors, we are going to roll out our grassroots level campaign with a party. Please come meet the 55 members of Psi Chapter at the brick campaign kick-off party in memory of Brother John J. Hainkel, Jr.

Letter from the Chapter

Thursday, January 4, 2007

Dear KA Brothers:

I have received many inquiries this week regarding the fire on Monday
night. I wish to thank you all for your concern and support. First,
let me say that we can all thank God that there was no loss of life, as
none of us were in the house on Monday night when the fire started. The
KA House is owned by a not-for-profit corporation, NOKAA, Inc., who
maintains insurance on the house. However, the insurance does not cover
us for replacement costs, and we will need to raise significant funds to
rebuild the house. The officers of NOKAA, Inc. are all local KA
alumni. We, the active chapter, will be assisting the officers of
NOKAA, Inc. with their capital campaign efforts. I am confident that
the campaign will be effective, as the executive board is headed up by
some our finest alumni, spanning many generations. In short, you may
rest assured that the campaign will be done in the utmost professional
manner.

In the interim, the most important thing is patience. If people want to
help immediately, our focus is to update alumni contact information. To
that end, I wish to direct your attention to this website
(www.ka-psi.org <http://www.ka-psi.org/> ). Please ask your KA brothers
to register so that there contact information is available and
up-to-date. We are also trying to recruit one member from each pledge
class to be a focal point in terms of contacting individuals.

For those of you who want to take an active role in the capital campaign
and rebuilding effort, please contact Kirby Newburger at 504-529-7593.
If you just can’t wait to send your cash contribution, the check should
be made out to NOKAA Inc. and sent to the following address:

NOKAA Inc.
Post Office Box 53214
New Orleans, LA 70153-3214

You may contact either of the individuals below if you would like to
help us.
